Il Miele degli Abissi: Jacopo Scassellati’s new exhibition in the heart of Castelsardo
Sixteen works between painting and sculpture tell a symbolic journey between light, memory, and psyche, in the suggestive setting of the Castello dei Doria. Inauguration on May 1st
Castelsardo. There is a place where light becomes honey and silence tells ancient stories. A place where art is not exhibited, but revealed. From the creative soul of Jacopo Scassellati, dense and vibrant visions are born, suspended between memory and desire, which find their home in the evocative Hall X of the Castello dei Doria, in Castelsardo.
It is here that, from May 1st to June 2nd 2025, Il Miele degli Abissi comes to life, a cycle of sixteen works – including paintings and sculptures – that invites the visitor to immerse themselves in a symbolic, powerful universe, crossed by a golden light that seems to guard thousand-year-old secrets.
The exhibition, curated by Stefano Resmini, is promoted by the municipal administration as part of a renewed commitment to the cultural enhancement of the territory. After the series of events hosted in the five-year period 2014-2019, when the castle halls welcomed some of the greatest Sardinian artists of the twentieth century, the Municipality of Castelsardo relaunches its role as a cultural center of excellence.
"We believe it is necessary, today more than ever, to contribute to the dissemination and promotion of art and culture - says Councilor for Culture Maria Speranza Frassetto - not only to attract visitors, but also because we are aware of the important role that these activities play in generating reflection, dialogue and personal and collective growth".
Miele degli Abissi is configured as an evocative journey into the depths of the soul. Scassellati's works emerge as archetypal visions from a time outside of time, between darkness and golden flashes, recounting a primordial, universal, and at the same time deeply personal love.
"This project - explains the artist - is a symbolic and powerful landscape, where the light, dense and golden like honey, becomes living matter and profound meaning. It is a place of interiority where everything is transfigured".
At the center of the entire exhibition, as per the artist's stylistic code, love becomes the voice and form of an intimate but universal narration, which invites you to get lost in order to find yourself, through a path that touches the psyche, questions memory, and gives back emotion to the viewer.
The exhibition catalog, conceived as a natural extension of the exhibition experience, is enriched by poetic fragments by Scassellati and by the critical and institutional interventions of Stefano Resmini, Anna Lia Pintau, Danielle Norman, and Maria Speranza Frassetto, offering a plural and in-depth look at the work and its symbolic meaning.
The exhibition, which will be inaugurated on May 1st at 6 pm, will be open to the public every day, from 9 am to 10 pm, in the breathtaking setting of the Castello dei Doria, in the heart of one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
