"Il miele degli abissi": in Castelsardo the new show of Scassellati

Curated by Stefano Resmini, it presents itself as an evocative journey into the depths of the soul

The famous international artist Jacopo Scassellati lands with his artistic imagination in one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, with a new, intense exhibition entitled "The Honey of the Abyss," a cycle of 16 works – including paintings and sculptures – that Castelsardo has the honor of hosting in the evocative Hall X of Castello dei Doria, from 1 May to 2 June 2025.

The municipal administration led by mayor Maria Lucia Tirotto, wanted to resume the path of artistic and cultural promotion already undertaken in the five-year period 2014-19, when the halls of Castello dei Doria had hosted major events and quality works of art, the result of the genius of the most famous Sardinian artists of the twentieth century.

“We believe it is necessary, today more than ever, to contribute to the diffusion and promotion of art and culture, not only to attract visitors, but also because we are aware of the important role of stimulating reflection, of opening up to dialogue and comparison that these activities can play, positively impacting the growth of individuals and society”, says the Councilor for Culture Maria Speranza Frassetto.

The exhibition, curated by Stefano Resmini, presents itself as an evocative journey into the depths of the soul.

Scassellati's works manifest themselves as visions that emerge from a suspended time, between darkness and light, recounting a primordial and universal love.

"The Honey of the Abyss is a place of interiority, a symbolic and powerful landscape, where the light - dense, golden, almost sacred - becomes matter and meaning", says the artist.

A journey that explores the psyche, the roots of feeling, and the memory of the past, returning them in contemporary forms, full of emotional power.

Love, which has always been the fulcrum of Scassellati's artistic language, is transfigured in this exhibition into an archetypal, profound, and revealing dimension. The Honey of the Abyss is a symbolic universe where you can get lost in order to find yourself again.

The exhibition catalogue is enriched not only by the artist's poetic fragments, but also by the contributions of Stefano Resmini, Anna Lia Pintau, Danielle Norman, and Maria Speranza Frassetto, who offer critical, poetic, and institutional readings on the artist's work and on the profound meaning of the project. The exhibition, promoted by the municipal administration, will be open every day from 9 am to 10 pm.
